INDSCALE

Operational software for companies that have outgrown the spreadsheet. Written specification before a line of code. Fixed scope, a fixed price, and one engineer who answers the phone.

Who runs this

Software a business depends on should be boring, documented, and cheap to change.

01 — The firm

INDSCALE is run by Jlogic Industries Limited, from a desk in Tavistock on the western edge of Dartmoor. We write operational software: the systems that hold stock, bookings, pricing, compliance records and reporting for companies of roughly eight to four hundred staff, mostly across Devon, Cornwall and the wider South West.

Every engagement starts with a written specification and ends with a handover pack: architecture notes, a runbook, and the test suite. You own the repository from the first commit.

02 — Why we build this way

Our founder, Jack, spent six years inside a Plymouth distributor keeping a warehouse system alive. In February 2018 it failed during a stock take. Bringing it back took nine days, and most of that was spent reading undocumented code left behind by a contractor who had gone in 2011. That is the failure we build against.

We do not take design-only work, and we will not rewrite a system that works simply because it is ten years old. Most of this industry bills by the day. We quote a fixed scope after discovery, because a day rate pays for slowness.

How the work runs

Four stages,
no surprises.

01

Discovery

Two weeks in the code and on site. We interview the people who actually use the system, then write the specification everything else is measured against.

02

Fixed quote

One document: scope, architecture, price and the delivery date. If our estimate is wrong, that is our cost to carry, not yours.

03

Fortnightly builds

Working software on a staging URL every second Friday, with a changelog written in plain English. You can stop us at any release boundary.

04

Handover

Repository, runbook, tests and a named engineer. If you want to move the work to another firm, you can do it the same afternoon.

What we are paid to build

Six engagements,
priced before we start.

01

Discovery & technical audit

Two weeks reading the existing codebase and interviewing the people who use it. You get a written specification, a risk list, and a fixed build quote. Useful even if you never build with us.

from £1,800
02

Systems integration

Getting Sage, Shopify, HubSpot or a twenty-year-old ERP to speak to each other. Queued, retried and logged, so a failed sync raises an alert instead of a silence.

from £4,200
03

Reporting & dashboards

One number per screen, wired to the source data rather than to a nightly spreadsheet export. Built so a director can read it on a phone at six in the morning.

Select to add to your enquiry
from £6,400
04

Custom web applications

Internal tools, client portals, booking and stock systems. Postgres, a typed stack and a test suite, so the next developer who opens the repository can read it without ringing us.

Select to add to your enquiry
from £14,500
05

SaaS product build

A first commercial release with billing, tenancy, authentication and an admin console. Nine to fourteen weeks from a signed specification, depending on how much of the domain already exists.

Select to add to your enquiry
from £24,000
06

Support retainer

Monitoring, dependency patching, and a named engineer who already knows your system. Four-hour response between 08:30 and 17:30, Monday to Friday. No minimum term beyond three months.

Select to add to your enquiry
from £950 / mo

Prices are the starting point for a fixed-scope quote and are confirmed after discovery. All figures exclude VAT.

Next step

Bring us the system that keeps breaking.

Tell us what it does, and what it costs you on the day it stops. Within one working day we will say whether we are the right firm for it, and if we are not, who in the South West is.
